West Niagara Minor Hockey - Top Gun Invitational

  1. This is an OMHA-sanctioned tournament. All OMHA rules and regulations will apply to tournament games.
  2. Registration opens one hour before the first scheduled game. Teams will not be permitted on the ice for their first game until they have submitted their team roster, travel permit, paid fees, and all required documentation.
  3. No body checking is permitted.
  4. Teams must be ready to play 15 minutes before their scheduled game time. There will be a 2-minute warm-up before each game.
  5. Team officials must complete the electronic game sheet at least 30 minutes before game time.
  6. Game Format:
    • Round Robin & Elimination Games: 10-10-15 stop-time periods.
    • Elimination Game Overtime Procedure:
      a. If tied, a 5-minute 3-on-3 sudden victory overtime will be played.
      b. If still tied, a three-player shootout will take place (teams must list three shooters on the game sheet before the game).
      c. If still tied, a single-shot sudden victory shootout will continue until a winner is determined. No player may shoot twice until all eligible players have taken a shot.
  7. Mercy Rule:
    • If a team leads by 5 or more goals in the third period, the game will switch to running time.
    • If the goal difference is reduced to 3 goals or less, the game will revert to stop time.
  8. Timeouts:
    • Round Robin: No timeouts allowed.
    • Elimination Games: Each team is allowed one 30-second timeout.
  9. Point System for Round Robin Seeding:
    • Win = 2 points
    • Tie = 1 point
    • Loss = 0 points
  10. Tie-Breakers for Round Robin Seeding:
  • Head-to-Head Result (only applies to two-way ties).

 

  • Goal For Percentage (GF%) – calculated as:

Total Goals For / Total Goals For + Total Goals Against

  • Least Goals Against (total from round-robin games).
  • Least Total Penalty Minutes (total from round-robin games).
  • Coin Toss (if still tied).
  1. Tie-Breakers for Three or More Teams Tied:
  • Head-to-head results will NOT be used in a three-way, four-way, five-way, or six-way tie. Instead, the following criteria will be applied in order:
    1. Goal For Percentage (GF%) – as calculated above.
    2. Least Goals Against.
    3. Least Total Penalty Minutes.
    4. Coin Toss (if still tied).
  1. Suspensions:
  • Game Misconducts & Minor Misconducts – Handled as per the OMHA Manual of Operations.
  • Gross Misconducts, Match Penalties & Fighting Majors – Result in suspension for the remainder of the tournament.
  • It is the team official’s responsibility to check for any suspensions. Suspensions will be reported to the OMHA daily and must be served during the tournament. Carry-over rules may apply per local association guidelines.
  1. Ice Resurfacing:
  • The ice will be flooded after each game.
  1. Jersey Colors:
  • All teams must have both home and away jerseys (light & dark).
  • The home team wears light-colored jerseys.
  1. Liability Waiver:
  • By participating in this tournament, teams agree to release West Niagara Minor Hockey, tournament officials, referees, sponsors, volunteers, and arena management from any liability related to injuries or accidents occurring before, during, or after the tournament.
  1. Final Decisions & Rule Changes:
  • The referees' decisions are final—no appeals will be heard.
  • The tournament committee reserves the right to make changes if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances. All committee decisions are final.
  1. U13 Wild Card for Semi-Finals:
  • One wild card team will be selected from the losing quarterfinal teams based on the best Goal For Percentage (GF%) from their quarterfinal game.
  • If two or more teams have the same GF%, the wild card team will be determined using the following criteria (in order):
    1. Least Goals Against in the quarterfinal game.
    2. Least Total Penalty Minutes in the quarterfinal game.
    3. Coin Toss (if still tied).
