Doug Robinson Tournament Rules – 2026

 

1. Sanctioning
This is an OMHA-sanctioned tournament. All OMHA rules and regulations apply unless otherwise stated.

2. Registration & Documentation
Registration opens one (1) hour prior to the first scheduled game. Teams will not be permitted on the ice without all required documentation submitted, including roster, travel permit (if applicable), and fees paid.

3. Body Checking
Body checking is permitted in U14 divisions and older, in accordance with OMHA rules.

4. Game Readiness & Warm-Up
Teams must be ready to play fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled game time. A two (2) minute warm-up will be provided.

5. Game Sheets
Electronic game sheets must be completed no later than thirty (30) minutes prior to game time.

6. Game Length
All round robin and elimination games will consist of 10–10–15 minute periods, stop time.

7. Elimination Game Tie-Breaking
If tied after regulation:

  • Five (5) minute 3-on-3 sudden victory overtime

  • Three-player shootout (players declared prior to the game)

  • Single-shot sudden victory shootout if still tied (all players must shoot before repeating)

8. Runtime Rule
In the third period, a lead of five (5) or more goals results in running time until the goal differential is reduced to three (3), at which point stop time resumes.

9. Timeouts

  • No timeouts in round robin games

  • One (1) 30-second timeout per team in elimination games

10. Points System (Round Robin)

  • Win: 2 points

  • Tie: 1 point

  • Loss: 0 points

11. Tiebreakers (Round Robin Seeding)
Applied in the following order:

  1. Head-to-head result*

  2. Goal percentage (Goals For ÷ [Goals For + Goals Against])

  3. Least goals against

  4. Least total penalty minutes

  5. Fastest opening goal scored

  6. Coin toss

*In the event of a three (3) or more team tie, head-to-head does not apply, and goal percentage will be used.

12. Suspensions
Suspensions are enforced per the OMHA Manual of Operations. Gross Misconducts, Match Penalties, and Fighting Majors result in suspension for the remainder of the tournament.

13. Ice Floods
Ice will be flooded after each game.

14. Jerseys
Teams must supply both light and dark jerseys. The home team shall wear light jerseys.

15. Liability Waiver
Participation releases West Niagara Minor Hockey Association and all affiliated parties from liability for injury or accident incurred during the tournament or related travel.

16. Final Authority
Referee decisions are final. The tournament committee reserves the right to amend these rules as required. All decisions are final.
