U7 MD, U8 MD, and U9 MD Open Borders Era - Spring Selection Process
We are thrilled to announce that the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) has officially approved the inclusion of U7 MD, U8 MD, and U9 MD teams in the open borders era. This new initiative will introduce a Spring selection process for U9 MD and U8 MD, with U7 MD team selections taking place in September. READ MORE,,,,

The Spring selection skates are expected to begin on either Saturday, April 12, or Sunday, April 13, depending on ice availability. Leading up to the selections, WNMHA will hold pre-skates for these age groups. Specific dates and times will be shared shortly.

Please note that to participate in the pre-skates, your child must have been on a WNMHA roster during the 2024-25 season and you must be registered for the 2025-26 season tryouts. The cost of pre-skates will be included in your tryout registration fees. Keep an eye on our social media channels, website, and your inbox for registration details in the near future. Attendance at pre-skates is not mandatory and they are not part of the evaluation process.

Depending on registration numbers, we aim to ice two teams per age group. Team tiering will be determined based on the possibility of entering a Tier 1 team in the Tri-County League and a Tier 2 team in the Niagara District Hockey League. If both teams play in the Niagara District Hockey League then both the teams will be balanced. This decision will be made by the OMHA competition committee.

The WNMHA Development Group will be selecting 34-36 players per age group (U7, U8, and U9) for these teams (17-18 players/team). Once the league placements are confirmed, we will announce the coaches and share details about the team assignments for the selected players.

If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Yours in Hockey,
